Skalky is connected with a legend, according to which a bachelor lived in Nový Jičín. Once he heard that inside the hill of Skalky a treasure is hidden, so he started thinking about how to get it. The king of dwarfs appeared in his dream and gave him the key of a big gate which was the entrance into the underground. After the bachelor woke up, a real key was lying on the table. He ran up the hill with the key, but he could not find an entrance with a lock, with which the key would be matched. Being angry, he threw the key into a well. However, the key used to appear again always on the table of the oldest bachelor in the town, who was then said to have the "key of Skalky".
