The history of the Jablunkov Museum goes back to the first/second half of the 19th century when thanks to a local weaver, poet and collector Adam Sikora a family museum came into existence, opened to the public by his son Štěpán Sikora. This museum operated until the end of 1938. In 1922 the so-called Krajinské (Land) Museum of the Silesian Museum Society in Jablunkov was opened here. The museum ended its work at the beginning of World War II. Post-war attempts to renew it were unsuccessful.

Only at the threshold of new Millennium and thanks to understanding of the municipal councillors, did the people of Jablunkov live to see their own Museum again. In cooperation Museum of the Těšín District, Municipality of Jablunkov and owner of the premises on the square - Mr.Zbyhněv Sikora - a new museum institution came into existence. The museum is simultaneously a new branch of the Museum of the Těšín District seated in Český Těšín. A new exhibition hall is assigned to the presentation of long-term thematic exhibitions, featuring issues, which are naturally connected with the town, and neighbouring villages. The permanent exposition is oriented towards the history and folk tradition of Jablunkov and its nearby neighbourhood.
