Yeoman Court at Sazany [ Country architecture ]

Sazany was originally a separate settlement at the Kelč periphery. It was situated at the today´s Sazany, Tauber´s, the upper part of Podzámčí and Kulichov Streets. (The yeoman court, consisting of a house, stables, granary and some barns, was a dominant building of the village of Sazany stretching up to Kulichov then. In the barns, little owls, called ?kulichové? in Czech, sheltered and the today´s street is named after them.)

The first written mention of the court at Sazany dates from 1126, when Bishop Jan of Olomouc bought, from Prince Ota II, the market village of Kroměříž and the complete villages of: Sazany including yeoman court, Těšice, Zámrsky, Němetice and others.

Under the administration of Bishop Bruno of Šaumburk, after Kelč had been released from the possession of Bishops of Olomouc, Sazany merged with Kelč and became a mere street. The yeoman court became a part of the Kelč manor estate. A part of the court´s yields provided the living of clerks and employees of the chateau and court. In its existence, the court has underwent many changes.

Of the last important changes, the following should be mentioned: a two-storey granary ? a unique Renaissance building which you can´t see far and wide - was built in 1788.

Between 1928 and 1956, the court was a part of the ČZPM Institute, Brno, and a remedial training centre for agriculture students was established there. In 1956, the court was transferred to the possession of the company Czechoslovak State-Owned Farms having its headquarters in Valašské Meziříčí.
