A trip to the most memorable Wallachian mountain - Radhošť [ Trip ]

Let´s look into the most frequently visited sites of Radhošť and Pustevny (1018 m above sea level) in the Beskid mountains for an all-day tourist trip. From Radhošť we have an unforgetably magnificant view of the surrounding region, the chapel of SS. Cyril and Methodius, near the mountain lodge - Hotel Radegast stand at its summit. Distinct timber buildings of folk architecture dominate Pustevny. A renowned monument within the region is the statue of the Pagan god Radegast by sculptor Albín Polášek. This statue and the entire region is associated with countless legends of treasure which is presumably hidden within the mountains. The entire area is densely covered with marked tourist trails not only for hiking during the summer, but also for cross-country tourism during winter.

How to get to Radhošť

By car - Route Bystřice pod Hostýnem - Frenštát pod Radhoštěm - Trojanovice - from the Bystřice square via the Pod Platany street we turn right and set out on the road no. 150 (Meziříčská), which will take us to Valašské Meziříčí and then we continue further to Rožnov p. R. In Rožnov we turn left at the second traffic lights in the direction of Frenštát pod Radhoštěm. From the direction of Rožnov (road no. 58) we get to a traffic circle where we continue straight on to the next crossroads. There we turn right and continue straight on along the bus station to the terminal Trojanovice-Ráztoka.

Combination by train and by bus - from Bystřice p. H. we get to Frenštát p. R. by train. From the railway station we continue further by bus which is quite frequent both on working days and weekends. The bus terminates at Trojanovice-Ráztoka station.

Tourist trail Trojanovice-Ráztoka - Pustevny - Radhošť
Trojanovice, Ráztoka - Chair lift lower station (0,5 km) - Pustevny, Chair lift upper station - Radhošť, hřeben (4 km)

We start our way to the best-known Wallachian mountain from the Trojanovice-Ráztoka station, at the parking place next to the Ráztoka hotel. After a ten-minute walk from the hotel we come to the chair lift lower station, which was built in 1940. The lift will take us up to the mountain saddleback of Pustevny, from where we continue walking along the blue trail up to the Radhošť mountain.

There is also a possibility to go up to Pustevny by car from Prostřední Bečva municipality. The most interesting and certainly the most comfortable way to Pustevny is the one by chair lift, the departure station of which is in Trojanovice.

During the summer season it is in operation from 7.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.. Departures are every hour and the operation time is extended during the advancing season.

Blue tourist trail: Pustevny - Radhošť
The four kilometre long trail leads from Pustevny (1018 m above sea level) past the look-out summer-house called Cyrilka and the statue of a pagan god Radegast along the Radhošť mountain ridge. There is a nice view of the Frenštát basin, and the tower of the Štramberk Trúba castle can be seen in the distance, as well as the hills Čertův mlýn (1207 m above sea level), Kněhyně and even the highest peak of the Beskid mountains - Lysá hora (1323 m above sea level), where a television transmitter is located on the top of the mountain.

Way back: Green tourist trail: Radhošť - Ráztoka
In front of the hotel Radegast on the Radhošť peak the ridgeway is crossed by the green tourist sign, along which we can descend back to the Ráztoka valley. The trail leads through a forest and is rather steep, but it is the shortest way. The length of the trail is 2 kilometres.

Another possible way is to walk back along the ridge to Pustevny and from here continue walking along the blue sign which leads under the so called "Old chair lift", down to the hotel Ráztoka. In case of being too tired, we can use the chair lift again. The last departure in the peak season is at 6:00 p.m.
